FAQ – Frequent Asked Questions

How many entries can I submit?

There is no limit for the number of submissions per entrant. However, it is mandatory that one

separate entry form should be filled for each work submitted.

If I just send my DVD directly to the festival, will my submission be processed and accepted?

In case someone sends us a DVD copy without filling an entry form, even before the final deadline

date, it will NOT be considered nor accepted for pre-selection. Without the correspondent fulfilled

entry form received in our system, preview medias will be automatically discharged.

My film is not inedited or recent. Am I prevented to submit it to the festival?

A work must not be inedited or recent in order to take part in the festival. The pre-selection is

made according to the artistic and technical criteria of the festival curators. However, the festival

reserves the right to give preference to works which are still not released in commercial circuit or

not been shown in other film festivals in Brazil.

I am under 18 years old; can I submit a film to the festival?

Yes. There is no minimum age for entrants. But, in case you receive an award, you will have to

indicate a person over 18 as your representative in order to receive the trophy or cash prize. In

case of films made by students entered by schools, the name of each student must be provided in

the “director” field. The name of the school or course must be indicated in the “producer” field, and

the teacher or school representative will remain the responsible for the submission.

Can I submit again a film that has already participated in the festival pre-selection process in previous years?

No. Even if it is not exactly the same film (e.g., reedited, new sound track or a different version),

the festival will not accept films which have already been evaluated (refused or selected) in past editions.

My film will not be ready by the submissions deadline date. Can I send a provisory copy

and, if it gets selected, send the completed final version afterwards?

No. Your film must be fully concluded at the moment of submission. Temporary editions, animatics

or works in progress will not be considered. Your work will be evaluated by the curators through the

version sent for pre-selection. The entrant is fully responsible if his film does not get accepted due

to any technical problem or incompleteness that prevents the pre-selection committee to fully

evaluate his work.

My film has more than one director/producer. Can I register just one person in the system?

We kindly ask you to register ALL of the people involved in the direction, production and other

functions relevant to your film. This information will be automatically transferred to the festival

printed material (catalogue, program, website, etc). Therefore, if you miss to include any of the

names of the people involved, that information will be incomplete, and the entrant will be fully

responsible for every consequence of this fact.

My film has animation but also live action scenes. Can I submit it to the festival? It can get accepted in the competitive screenings?

Yes. Please submit it, and the festival curators will decide about its adequacy to the festival

competition and programming criteria.

I cannot access the entry form. May I download or receive by email a printable form to send you by regular mail?

No. All entries must be made online, by the entrant himself. Our system was developed for

preferential use in Mozilla Firefox, so we recommend that this browser may be used. If you still

have problems, please write to the festival production.

I realize now that I have made some mistakes when filling some fields of the entry form or some information about the film has been changed after the submission. Should I start again and submit a new entry form?

No! There must be only one entry form per film! If you notice any mistake or correction to be made

in your entry, please inform by email to entry@animamundi.com.br and we will get in contact with

you to provide the corrections.

I do not have now in hands all the information needed to conclude my submission. What should I do?

You may choose to save the entry form, in order to continue to fill it later. However, you must

return to the system and complete the submission no later than 11:59 PM of March 25th.

If you do not do so, your entry will be automatically excluded from the pre-selection process of

ANIMA MUNDI 2013.

I am not sure about my Blu-Ray / DVD region. What should I put in this field?

Please choose the region that corresponds to the country where the media was produced. Every

media will be checked by the festival’s technical team before the pre-selection committee preview.

I have doubts about choosing the right category/gender for my film. Will I be disqualified if I do not choose any option or make more than one choice?

Before you start filling the entry form, please read our rules, where you will find more information

about each one of the festival categories. However, your film will not be disqualified if you do not

decide on a category or choose more than one to participate. These fields are there to help the

festival curators to select the films and program the screenings if the film gets selected. The

selection committee reserves the right to alter, at its own discretion, the category or gender

indicated by the entrants, in order to adapt it to the artistic criteria of the festival program.

What are the maximum lengths accepted by the festival in each category?

According to ANCINE (Brazilian Agency for Cinema), film lenghts are divided in:

Short Film – 15 to 30 minutes

Medium Film – 31 to 59 minutes

Feature Film – up to 60 minutes

In ANIMA MUNDI, however, we consider medium films as short films.

So every film under 59 minutes is supposed to be included in short film screenings, if selected.

The total length must count with full credits (at the beginning and the end).

What does the FUTURE ANIMATOR category stands for?

It is a non-competitive category in which films made by children and teenagers will be shown (it

may also eventually include first animations made by adults in non-professional workshops or

courses). We do ask that the minimum and maximum age of participants be informed in the

appropriate field of the entry form in submitted each film. For extra information about festival

categories, please check our rules.

What does the STUDENT FILM category stands for?

We consider as student film those that are made by animation students in professional courses or

universities. Student films may be selected for the competitive screenings of SHORT FILMS or

SHORT FILMS FOR CHILDREN categories, when they will be also competing for the “Best Student

Film” award. They can also be selected for the non-competitive screenings of the “Animation, of

Course” show.

My film’s soundtrack includes recordings made by a musical band or artist who is not aware of this use. Can I enter my film to the festival or should I make a new original soundtrack for my film?

We expressly recommend the use of original music, specially composed and recorded for your

animation. Or, if you want to use a pre-existent recording, you must get an express authorization

of the authors and/or editors. Even if you quote this use in the film credits, the owners of the

recording rights may feel offended if they have not approved the use of their work before the film

was released. We remind you that, according to the festival rules, the entrants are fully responsible

for the authorial rights concerned in their submitted works, and will answer in court if any legal

complaint is made about this matter.

According to the Law, a work can be considered as a public property and might be freely used only

70 years after the death of the author or partner. Therefore, as from the repertory selection, we

recommend you to look for the association that represents the referred titular and verify if the

rights of his/her creations are still under laws of rights’ protection.

My film has dialogues/narration/letterings in Portuguese. Should I send a text file anyway?

No. Only works that are in other languages than Portuguese must send a text file with

dialogues/narration/letterings for translation. These texts can be in English, Spanish or French.

Although I have included all information in the entry form, the system does not allow me to SEND it – or it does not recognize the files I try to attach. Can I print it all on paper and send everything by mail?

No. Please keep trying to finalize your submission. Please check your internet connection and

browser (please use preferably Mozilla Firefox). Verify if your entry form is really complete and if

the files to be attached are in the appropriate formats and size, according to our rules

recommendations.

Some fields of the entry form and files to be attached are mandatory. If any of these information or

files is missing, the entry will not get through.

If you wish, you may also send the printed dialogue list, the images and promotional materials by

mail along with your preview DVD. But even doing so, you may also have sent everything

previously online, or your submission may not become valid.

Accepted formats for attachments upload:

Promotional Image: - jpeg maximum 2MB, RGB, 15cm x 10cm, 1800 x 1200 pixels

Narration, Dialogue or Lettering – Microsoft Word doc or Adobe PDF with time code.

Maximum 200KB. If it is a feature film and text file exceeds 200KB, please inform by email to

entry@animamundi.com.br

I did not get a confirmation email with a copy of my sent entry form. What should I do?

First, please check your email INBOX within a 72 hour window after the submission. There is a

chance also that our automatic message gets stuck by your e-mail’s SPAM filter – please check this

one too. If you are sure that you cannot retrieve our original message, PLEASE DO NOT ENTER

YOUR FILM AGAIN! Please write to entry@animamundi.com.br and we will contact you to tell you

what to do.

After finishing my submission, do I need to print, sign and mail the form? What should I do next?

No, it is NOT necessary or desirable that you send us a printed form, because every information

you have entered online is securely stored and saved in our system.

Next steps are: please prepare your preview DVD with the submitted work and mail it no later than

March 25th. We will consider the postage date printed on the package.

Films sent after the sending deadline will be automatically excluded from the selection process.

Please send us DVD ONLY (no tapes), preferably FREE region (“0” or “all”) in NTSC system,

recorded in DVD video, 16x9 anamorphic, NO INTERACTIVE MENU.

We strongly suggest sending by express mail (EMS) if available, please avoid using courier

services. Please check our rules for detailed information about sending.

A special mailing label, available in our website for download, must be used.

I cannot download or print the special mailing label to stick it in my package. What am I supposed to do?

This label is not mandatory; it was created to help guarantee the correct information for the

packages to reach our address. If for any reason you cannot or do not want to use it, no problem:

just send your package to:

ANIMA MUNDI 2013 – Rua Elvira Machado, 5 Botafogo – Rio de Janeiro/RJ - CEP 22280-060.

I have submitted more than one film to the festival. Should I send each preview DVD in a separate envelope or package?

NO, this is not necessary. You must have just one film in each DVD, but you may send various

DVDs in a same package or envelope.

How do I get to know if the festival production did receive my material for the preselection?

You will receive an email message from us as soon as we get your package delivered.

However, if there is any delay or you do not receive any message at all, please contact us at

producao@animamundi.com.br.

After the selection results announcement - if my film gets accepted, should I send another copy of my film?

If you have chosen in the entry form that your DVD preview copy can also be used as a FINAL

FORMAT FOR SCREENING, you should not send another copy. However, we may ask you for

another copy only if we detect (in due time) any technical defect in your media.

If you have chosen BLU-RAY, 35mm, Digital or a new DVD as a FINAL FORMAT, you MUST send a

new copy. But please wait for our message with detailed instructions for the sending of the final

copy.

As for Digital File formats, we will communicate individually to each entrant, after the selection

process, what will be the exact specifications for the accepted formats and the ways of sending it.

If my film gets refused, will I receive a notification from the festival? Will I be able to know the reasons why my film was not accepted?

No. The list of selected films will be published in our website by May 16th. Only the selected films will

receive information about the following steps of the selection and programming process.

We do receive an average of 1500 entries every year, and about 400 titles from this total get

selected. Unfortunately, there is no available time or opportunity for the curators to express their

opinions about each work submitted, out of the selection process circle.
